Reflection T1-T4

Term 1:In term 1 our class went to camp at Spencer park, I really enjoyed it and had to make food with my group. We also did surfing which was really fun because I don't go much.

Term 2:In term 2 I did girls self defense, which was probably one of my highlights. We had weekly sessions with Lynda.

Term 3:In term 3 ,I went to adrenaline forest with a group of kids in my class.I learnt how to use a harness and use the clips.I found it really fun but embarrassing when I let go of the handle for the zip line.

Term 4:In term 4 I went sailing at Lake Rua, I had never gone sailing before and learnt a lot.I found it quite embarrassing when I tipped over the boat because, I let go of the rope.

Jelly Park

On Friday my class went to Jelly Park.It was really sunny and we had to apply sunblock quite often.

I really enjoyed the hydro-slides, I went down with my friend Isla first. She was at the front and it was really funny cause she get soaked at the end of the slide and, I was barely wet.The other hydro-slide was done singly. So I raced Isla down.I noticed that if you pointed your toes then  the water didn't splash up at your face. When I hit the water I bounced across and it was really funny.

I good dressed slightly early and watched people jump off the diving board. Bluebell and I yelled out to our friend Lewis and told him to belly flop.It was really funny.

I think that it was a nice way to spend the day with my class, especially because its nearly the end of year.

Maths-Tessellation

Today in maths we worked on tessellations. I know that certain shapes tessellate and some don't. If there are gaps on the page then the shape doesn't tessellate or fit into itself. I have tried rectangles, arrows, equilateral and right angle triangles. It is much easier to use the computer than to draw and cut it with a scissor.

One word speech

For the year 8 formal each student had to make a small speech based on one word that described our experience at Rawhiti.

This is my speech:

Hi my name is Kirsten my word is confidence.

I chose this word because when I first started at Rawhiti, I didn't have a lot of confidence.

But coming into Tangaroa, I got given a lot of opportunities to push myself, such as

leading assemblies, running choice and challenge, and  discos.

Because of the encouragement and support of teachers and classmates I feel more confident heading into the future.

Maths - Rotate

For math's we have been rotating around a point.Today we went on a site called geometry rotation.

Which had a bunch of quizzes for us to do.I think these helped me have more understanding of what we are learning about.

Pobble.

This is my pobble questions.I still need to draw a picture and writing my story.
Where is the pup’s mother?Went to find food for her young pup

What animal is she?Seal (what kind?)

What might she have learnt already from her mother? How to stay camouflaged and away from predators trying to eat her.She is still learning some of the basics.

How old is the pup? 6 months old.

Do you remember learning to swim? What were the biggest challenges you had to overcome?I had to learn to keep myself afloat and hold my breath.I found I struggled with breaststroke the most because of the way you had to move your legs like a frog.

How is it that some animals are better swimmers than others? Some animals are made for swimming, like otters that have skin that allows them to stay dry. There are other animals like fish that have to stay in water because they have gills.

How do you think it would feel to swim in that water? For me it would be cold but it will possibly be warmer for seals because they have fur that helps them.

Can you use relative clauses to add extra information to a sentence using who, which, where, when, whose or that?
E.g. The pup, who was only a few days old, prepared for the icy plunge.
Her fur was white like the snow she was lying upon.
The water was turquoise.
