My science inquiry

For the last two weeks we have been learning about chemical reactions and the periodic table
The main molecule for hokey pokey is baking soda
The science behind hokey pokey is when the backing soda is put in with the golden syrup it heats up and releases carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide gas makes small bubbles in the sugar and it foams up.

Experiment:Hokey Pokey

Stuff you need

5 Tablespoons White sugar
2 Tbsp Chelsea Golden Syrup
1 tsp baking soda

What to do:

  1. Grease pan with butter all over
  2. Mix white sugar and Golden syrup in a saucepan
  3. Place white sugar and Chelsea sugar together stir until sugar dissolves
  4. Increase the heat and bring to boil for 2 minutes
  5. Stir constantly if need to stop burning
  6. Remove from heat
  7.  Add the baking soda and stir very quickly the mixture will froth up rapidly.
Pour into prepared tin immediately. Leave until cold and set then break into pieces.
